Logo of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The emblem for France’s presidency of the European Union illustrates the strengthening of ties between France and the European Union. It symbolizes France’s commitment to serving the wellbeing of all Europeans. Put plain and simple, the presidency is directing its attention to Europeans. It is both politically and publicly oriented.

The site of the French Presidency of the Council of the EU will open on 1 July 2008. You can already consult the provisional calendar of the second semester 2008 as well as the calendar of events for the month of July.
The European Flag
This is the European flag. It is the symbol not only of the European Union but also of Europe’s unity and identity in a wider sense. The circle of gold stars represents solidarity and harmony between the peoples of Europe.
The number of stars has nothing to do with the number of Member States. There are twelve stars because the number twelve is traditionally the symbol of perfection, completeness and unity. The flag therefore remains unchanged regardless of EU enlargements. History of the flag.
