In the framework of the series “Vis-à-vis architecture: when France and Canada connect architects”, coordinated by the Embassy of France in Canada and the Institut français, the architects Dominique Jakob and Brendan MacFarlane will be in Ontario on September 21 and 22 to present their work and vision.
Jakob+MacFarlane is a multicultural and pluridisciplinary architecture agency based in Paris, France. The agency’s work includes exploring digital technologies both as a conceptual contribution and a production method, using new materials as a way to create a closer, more flexible and responsible environment.
Their main projects include hightening of the Maison T at the Garenne-Colombes (1998), Restaurant Georges in the Centre Georges Pompidou (2000), the reconstruction of the Theatre Pont-Audemer in Eure (2000), library Florence Loewy Books by Artists in Paris (2001), the New Communication Centre for Renault in Boulogne-Billancourt (2004), the Theatre Maxime Gorki (2004), the Foundation Entreprise Ricard (2007), as well as the Docks of Paris, Cité de la mode et du design, and the 100 social appartments Hérold in Paris (2008).
The ongoing projects are the Pavillon Orange Quai Rambaud in Lyon, the Fond régional d’Art Contemporain de la Région Centre in Orléans (“Regional Fund for Contemporary Art”) the Conservatory of Dance and Music in Noisy le Sec, as well as the Swiss Cultural Centre in Paris. Recently, they were awarded the first honourable mention at the International Competition of the Taipei Performing Arts Centre.
Their projects have been exhibited in different museums around the world, including in London, Moscow, New York, Tokyo and Paris. They were also part of the French selection for the Venice Architecture Biennial in 2002 and of the international selection in 2004 and 2008.
