“The past” in theatres in Toronto – January 24, 2014 [fr]

Presented at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, The Past, written and directed by the Iranian director Asghar Farhadi who received a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for his feature A Separation, will open on January 24, 2014 at Cineplex Odeon Varsity.

Shot in France and in French, The Past, which was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and is nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 71st Golden Globe Awards, also focuses on a separation, which threatens the future of Marie, played by Bérénice Bejo, who won the Best Actress Award in Cannes for this role.

Synopsis

Following a four year separation, Ahmad returns to Paris from Tehran at his French wife Marie’s request, in order to finalize their divorce. During his brief stay, Ahmad discovers the conflicting nature of Marie’s relationship with her daughter Lucie. Ahmad’s efforts to improve this relationship soon unveil a secret from their past.
