Freedom Prize of the Normandy Region [fr]

The Normandy region launched the Freedom Award which allows young people to present an application for a public figure or an organisation, highlighting their recent fight for freedom. This prize will be awarded in June 2019 as part of the Normandy Forum for Peace

As part of the 1st edition of its Normandy Forum for Peace, held in Caen on 7 and 8 June, the Normandy region has joined forces with the International Institute for Human Rights and the academic authorities of Normandy to launch the Freedom Prize project.

This new project, anchored in the meaning and values ​​of the Allied landings of June 6 1944, fulfills a mission of education and transmission on the theme of freedom.

This educational system, open to youth from 15 to 25, aims to highlight each year a public figure or an organization that committed themselves exceptionnaly to freedom. The fight for freedom proposed by young people must be real and recent (less than 3 years old).

The Freedom Award is divided into 4 stages:

A call for applications to propose public figures or organizations:

Young people aged 15 to 25 from all over the world can submit candidates for the Freedom Award by filling out the corresponding form at this address: https://www.normandie.fr/lappel-candidatures-0 .

The call for applications is open and the deadline for submitting applications is January 15, 2019. To submit a file, you must be part of a group of minimum 2 persons. Thia application can be submitted by a collective belonging to an association, a school or an informal group. This group must be supervised by a referent adult. This referent may also be a member of the group if he/she is also between the age of 15 and 25 at the time of filing.

A jury to select the three finalist candidates:

The jury, made up of young people from 15 to 25 years old from all over the world, will meet in Normandy on February 7 and 8 2019. Unlike the previous call for applications, applications to be part of the jury are on an individual basis. The closing date for the application is November 16 2018.

A digital vote:

The young people will then be invited to elect the winner of the Freedom Award via a digital voting tool; the vote will take place from March 27 to 31, 2019.

The Freedom Award Ceremony:

It will take place on 6 June 2019 as part of the Normandy World Peace Forum in the presence of the Prize Winner and young people from all over the world who participated throughout the year in this adventure.
